Before Starting Fumigation
Some compulsory tasks have been done before doing fumigation in your poultry farm.
- Bird sold out and farm expose to sunlight-
Firstly, after the sale of farm chickens, the farm should be thoroughly cleaned. After that, the process of washing the farm with any disinfectant should be completed. The farm should be rested for at least 2.5-3.0 weeks.
Adequate sunlight and free ventilation should be provided. Many germs on the farm will die or be destroyed automatically if there is no host or host on the farm. There are many microorganisms whose life cycle is 2.5 to 3.0 weeks. It is better not to raise new chickens on the farm. After resting the farm, it should be covered with lime.
- Advance decision Making about Day old chicks-
Secondly, you have to decide in advance when to raise a new baby on the farm. The baby must be from a reputed company. You have to take care of the baby’s weight, size, body structure, and vitality of the baby.
Thirdly, before raising the baby on the farm, the litter of the farm, brooder house, food, and water containers should be prepared. The litter used in the farm should be well dried in the sun and sprayed with copper sulfate or formalin. It is advisable to spray. This will kill the fungus in the litter and the moisture in the litter will remain the same.
- Final stand for Fumigation
Fourthly, the fumigation work should be completed at least 48 to 72 hours before raising the day-old chicks (DOC) on the farm. The shed should be completely enclosed by a seamless good curtain so that no air can enter inside the shed or air can escape from inside the shed. Must be completely airtight.
- Prerequisite criteria for Fumigation
Depending on the presence of germs on your poultry farm, fumigation or fumigation of the shed should be done. Keeping the issues in mind, you need to finish the process of fumigation of the shed. The following issues can be considered.
1. Normal or single level fumigation- where the presence of pathogens is low.
2. Double-dose or double-dose fumigation – where the presence of pathogens is present.
3. Fumigation of three times or more – where the presence of pathogens is excessive.
- Measurement of ingredients for fumigation –
1. Formalin,( formaldehyde0
2. Potassium-per-manganate (PPM).
- Fumigation Formula –
For every 100 cubic feet or 2.60 cubic meters of space –
A) Ordinary or single fumigation (1x)
Formalin – 40 ml
Potassium-per-manganate (PPM) – 20 grams
B) Double fumigation (2x)
Formalin – 60 ml
Potassium-per-manganate (PPM) -40 grams
C) Three times or more fumigation (3 x, 5x)
Formalin – 120 ml
Potassium-per-manganate (PPM) -60 grams

The curtain of the shed should be completely airtight. The fumigation work should be completed at least 48 hours to 72 hours before lifting the baby to the brooder after preparing the brooder shed.
Next, at least 6 hours before taking the baby to the brooder, all the curtains of the shed should be removed and the gas should be expelled.
How to complete fumigation work ?
First of all potassium-per-manganate (PPM) should be taken according to the size in earthen or steel containers. Then formalin should be poured gently next to potassium-per-manganate. The fire may ignite. So the work must be done very carefully.
When the formalin pouring is done, you have to get out of the shed very quickly. Otherwise, if there is extra smoke in the room, it will be difficult to get out of the shed and the fumigation smoke can damage the respiratory system.
However, when pouring formalin in potassium-permanganate, it should be poured back from a distance very carefully so that the smoke does not get into the eyes and nose.
In this way, you can complete the fumigation of your shed. You can keep chickens safely by disinfecting your shed or farm. You can reduce the use of antibiotics in farm management and be able to produce safe meat and eggs.
So benefit by fumigating the sheds on your farm to raise chickens in a sterile environment. Encourage others to fumigate about running a chicken farm.
